UPDATE: All ten candidates have secured enough nominations to make it through to the vote. Hustings speeches will begin at 2.30pm, and the secret ballot will take place thereafter.

As the House elects its new speaker today, LabourList will keep you up to date with developments. Currently, Margaret Beckett is favourite with Ladbrokes at 2/1, with John Bercow and George Young both at 3/1.

The Guardian is reporting that Tory MPs are considering voting for Beckett to reduce previous favourite Bercow’s chances, because they fear Bercow’s reforms would be too radical. Instead, they want Young, who Tory grandees feel would be “more sympathetic to their plight”.
