Adonis unveiled as new Progress Chair

January 11, 2012 11:49 am

Andrew Adonis is to become the new chair of Progress, with five new vice-chairs from the 2010 intake joining the organisation’s team. Speaking this morning, Adonis said:

“‘I’m excited to be helping Progress in its hugely important work in reinvigorating progressive politics. A strong alternative to the Tories is needed now more than ever, and Progress has a key role to play in helping to return Labour to power at the next election.”

Shadow education secretary Stephen Twigg MP, the current chair of Progress, becomes the Progress honorary president. He replaces former health secretary Alan Milburn who joins the new Progress advisory board.

The new vice-chairs are Jenny Chapman MP, Julie Elliott MP, Alison McGovern MP, Toby Perkins MP, and Dan Jarvis MP. They join current Progress vice-chairs Tristram Hunt MP, Liz Kendall MP, Bridget Phillipson MP, Jonathan Reynolds MP, Anas Sarwar MP, and John Woodcock MP.’

Oh dear….Lord Adonis: a modest little man, with a lot to be modest about

I dont think you intended that to be a compliment, but it is. It was also said about Atlee.

Yes John, Churchill said it of Atlee, and it wasn’t totally fair. However, Lord Adonis is no Atleee

I’m just musing over the comparison between Attlee and Adonis.

However, given that it has no basis whatsoever, it hasn’t taken long. There is no comparison.  Lord Adonis is entirely suited to chair an organisation such as Progress

Ready and waiting in the wings….

If unelected, undemocratic, Friednd of Camderon is chair of Progress that’s certainly an organisatin to avoid at all costs.  If Blairites want to resurrect Nree Labour suggest they leave Real Labour to represent real people with real needs

I wasnt comparing Adonis to Atlee. I was stating that the phrase was a massive compliment. I’m not sure you meant to compliment Adonis, probably because you didnt understand what the phrase meant.

The chutzpah of Peter Mandelson – and why we need more trade unionists

Lord Mandelson, or Baron Mandelson of Foy, as he should be referred to since he was packed off to the House of Lords by a small cabal, recently accused the Unite union of ‘manipulating selection procedures’ in the Labour Party. He went on to warn Ed Miliband that this ‘stores up danger for a future Labour government’. Irony has always been in as short supply as sheer chutzpah has been plentiful with old Mandy – but since his faithful disciple [...]

Miliband is off to speak to Google – but it’s not all about tax avoidance

Ed Miliband is speaking at the Google “Big Tent” event this morning, and as we noted earlier this week, he’s picking a bit of a fight with them over their tax affairs. Understandably, most of the press coverage in advance of Miliband’s speech (and presumably afterwards too) is about Google’s tax affairs. That’s in part due to David Cameron’s unwillingness to challenge his adviser, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, when the two met earlier this week. The Downing Street media team [...]
