What planet are they on?

According to Paul Waugh, Tory HQ described Chloe Smith’s Newsnight horrorshow in their media brief as:

“Verdict: Slight Govt win, Smith strong”

I thought we were supposed to be the party of outrageous spin…?

    Evidence of delusion, appalling smugness?

    What planet are they on?

    Bart would say “Uranus “.

I think she was trying her best, in what was obvious another Party leader who thinks he is the bloke who does it all, bit like Brown really.

  • LordElpus

Typical management ruse thrown by the boss man. Give the No2 a poisoned challis to deal with whilst holding a gun to her head. Then walk away feeling smug because you’ve dealt with a situation well by not getting any smears on your new suit.

The same trick used by Ed Balls today in the house to put up clueless Rachel Reeves against Osborne today.
Could it be because he was in the treasury when all this LIBOr manipulation was going on and he helped draw up the rules?

      • Dave Postles

The British Banking Association and Thompson Reuters determine the rules for Libor.  The manipulation extended to Euribor.

No doubt you also hold Balls responsible for the mis-selling of PPI, and the failure of RBS to invest in its IT systems.  Anything else from which you wish to exonerate the banks?  the banks can shovel enough shit on their own without assistance.

Even the Torygraph describes Gideon as arrogant and conceited.  Chloe Smith was there to be sacrificed, Gideon wants to be next Tory Leader, soon.

If I was her I’d feel more than a little annoyed with her boss. She was sold a “hospital pass” in footballing terms and to mix metaphors left to blow in the wind. Facing Paxman you need to be well briefed and she wasn’t. Game over really!

  • James

    Wow!

  • James

Labour are no better. If Miliband or some lesser light were taken apart by Paxman in respect to the Hutton/Purnell/Cooper/Freud welfare reforms he (or she) would flap about in the same trying to convince the public and themselves, probably, that they were well meant and had some positive effect. Politicians live in a world fogged by delusion and self-illusion. They are a sorry lot. All of them.

Planning the revolution – Labour and the Spending Review

In four weeks time the Chancellor will announce the results of the 2015 spending Review. There won’t be many winners but some will have lost more than others. Political commentators and discussion forums will pass judgement and public sector managers will, yet again, pick through the debris, making do and mending from what ever they can salvage. Before we get overtaken by the detail we should reflect on the bigger picture. What ever the chancellor says on June 26th it [...]

A call for action at the G8

In less than a month’s time, the UK hosts the G8 Summit. With hunger, tax, trade and transparency all on the agenda, the UK has a unique opportunity to show global leadership on these issues. The scale of hunger is devastating. There is enough food in the world for everyone, yet 1 billion people still go hungry. 2.3 million children every year die from malnutrition – to put that in perspective, that is around 16,000 children every day. Or one [...]

A Northern Tory that Labour should be afraid of

The Labour Party spends a great deal of time beating itself up over its performance in Southern England. We know it simply isn’t good enough, but we can’t seem to put our finger on why exactly that’s the case. Is it demographics? No. Culture? Perhaps. Lack of basic party organisation in some areas? It’s certainly a factor. But whilst we’re flagellating ourselves over our inability to perform south of the Watford gap (outside of London), we should remember that the [...]

    Why we love Woolwich

Woolwich is an amazing place. It’s where the Labour party was founded as a mass membership organization. The Woolwich Provident was one of Britain’s first building societies. The Royal Arsenal Coop one of our first cooperative societies. Woolwich had the second Polytechnic in the country, created with the aim of providing education for working adults. Woolwich is my nearest big town centre, where I shop and go to meet friends. In the last few days, for many people, its name [...]
