Tory councillor David Stephenson has been removed from his post on Erewash Borough Council after making a sick “joke” about two police officers shot dead in Manchester. He was overheard saying:

“If you get 100 points for shooting one policewoman and 200 points for shooting two policewomen, how many do you get for shooting a lawyer?”

Local Tory council leader Chris Corbett – himself the father of a serving police officer – said he was “appalled” by Stephenson’s behaviour, and said that as well as being removed as a council exec member, Stephenson would no longer be on the panel of candidates for future elections as a Tory candidate. Corbett seems to have handled this situation impeccably – but the same can’t be said for Stephenson. He has apologised now, but allegedly told a police officer ”go away, you silly man” when initially confronted over his comments

He may have said these things but I like Labour’s approach where these decisions are made by an independant panel not by a partyleader.

The Conservatives really didn’t get called the nasty party for nothing did they? Every time one of them really lets rip and you see just what they are made of; you wonder how many others of them think exactly the same but are too bright to let their gaurd down.

Having said that though, Corbett gets full marks.

The BBC just referred to a “councillor” – but I did wonder.  What a surprise….a Tory. The Nasty Party alive and well.

The chutzpah of Peter Mandelson – and why we need more trade unionists

Lord Mandelson, or Baron Mandelson of Foy, as he should be referred to since he was packed off to the House of Lords by a small cabal, recently accused the Unite union of ‘manipulating selection procedures’ in the Labour Party. He went on to warn Ed Miliband that this ‘stores up danger for a future Labour government’. Irony has always been in as short supply as sheer chutzpah has been plentiful with old Mandy – but since his faithful disciple [...]
