Tory councillor compares living in a council house to “sizeable lottery win”

A Tory councillor in St Albans – Nat Young – last night compared living in a council house to “winning a sizeable lottery win”, much to the obvious shock of others in the room. Here’s the footage:

If he had said that because of the desperate shortage of social housing the chances of being awarded a council house tenancy were comparable to the chances of a sizeable lottery win (1 chance in 2,330,636 to pick 5 numbers and a bonus number correctly and win around £100,000 on average) this nutcase would have been on the mark. As things stand he was simply being a Tory. And anybody can be one of those these days no matter how dishonest, innumerate or stupid. Eeek.

  • What a strange comment. Very difficult to understand why these people say these idiotic things. It is almost like a sizeable lottery win in every way except in so far it is absolutely nothing like it at all.

It means that your worries about making the rent each month are significantly reduced so it’s very much like a lottery win for some of us.

  • I’m sure many council.. sorry social housing tenants.. would happily trade their one bed flats on inner city estates for his lovely country pile… seeing as he’s so enamoured with it , maybe he’d be up for it …….. ?

  • Yes council tenancy is secure.
    This is a bad thing?

Tory politicians. Twisting reality for a nasty tomorrow.

The man is a class one buffoon. To get a council house takes a minor miracle in the first instance, hence the proliferation of badly maintained private rental and other such unsuitable options. I feel a trip into the real world is needed for this idiot. Maybe a month on some of our less sociable (lottery standard) council estates would change his very narrow mind.

Very clever comment and by the way I am a foreigner living in the uk.We do not have such a thing in our countries (council houses). You work hard or otherwise you live under the bridge.I disagree with the council house policy ….
