Corbyn, who is in the running to be Labour’s next leader, has signed this letter along with 18 other Labour MPs – including London mayoral hopeful Diane Abbott. Four general secretaries from Labour affiliated trade unions have also put their name to this letter: Len McCluskey, from Unite; Frances O’Grady, from the TUC; Paul Kenny, from GMB and Manuel Cortes, of the TSSA.

They argue that “there must be an end to the enforcing of austerity policies that are causing injustice and poverty in Europe and across the world.” Signatories say they “urge the creation of UN rules to deal with government debt crises promptly, fairly and with respect for human rights, and to signal to the banks and financiers that we won’t keep bailing them out for reckless lending.”

This comes as people in Greece will vote in a referendum on Sunday to decide whether they will agree to the terms the country has been offered by international creditors for receiving bailout money.

The list of Labour MPs to sign this letter reads as follows:

Diane Abbott MP
Dave Anderson MP
Richard Burgon MP
Jeremy Corbyn MP
Roger Godsiff MP
Harry Harpham MP
Carolyn Harris MP
Ian Lavery MP
Clive Lewis MP
Rebecca Long-Bailey MP
John McDonnell MP
Liz Mcinnes MP
Rachael Maskell MP
Michael Meacher MP
Grahame Morris MP
Kate Osamor MP
Cat Smith MP
Jo Stevens MP
Catherine West MP
