UPDATE: Elliot Morley, the Labour MP and former agriculture minister, continued claiming for the mortgage interest on his constituency home for more than 18 months after the loan had been repaid. Morley has already repaid some of the money and said tonight: “I have made a mistake, I apologise for that and I take full responsibility. My priority was to repay and if I suffer financially as a result of that, I have only myself to blame.”
UPDATE: Fabian Hamilton, the Labour MP for Leeds North East, apparently declared his mother’s home in London as his main residence, claiming £85,000 of expenses to pay the mortgage on his family home in Leeds.
The Telegraph is reporting that some of the most serious expense abuses will be published later tonight. The disclosures will cover nine Labour and Tory MPs.
