The royal wedding, tube strikes and Boris Johnson’s premature accusation

By Mark Ferguson / @markfergusonuk

Those of you who follow Boris Johnson on Twitter will have noticed that he has been unusually hperactive in the past day or two, with three tweets urging action against tube driver’s union ASLEF for striking on the date of the royal wedding. He even recorded this video attacking the union.

Boris has clearly decided that campaigning against a potential tube strike is a big vote winner.

There’s only one problem – ASLEF General Secretary Keith Norman says that the question of a possible strike “has not even been discussed” by the union’s executive. Norman also said that any suggestion that there would be a strike is “premature to say the least”.

Johnson is happy to suggest that people “bombard” the ASLEF website, but it doesn’t appear that he has taken the time to read it himself…
