A couple of weeks ago we took a look at some of the names being linked with a tilt at the Labour nomination for the 2016 London Mayoral race. But it seems that one prominent name may have been missing. The auumption was that after choosing not to stand in 2012, Alan Johnson had given up on standing as mayor for the city of his birth.
It seems that assumption was a little premature.
Speaking to The House magazine, Johnson said:
“maybe we do need a bit of fresh blood next time that’s for sure…I would not rule it out (for 2016).”
Could it be Johnson vs Johnson in 2016? He’d be another strong candidate in what already looks like a strong field. We wouldn’t rule him out either.
