Ed Miliband fanned the flames of Labour’s internal debate on the railways today, when he told the Guardian’s Editorial Conference that the Labour party is considering different models of railway ownership. Miliband said:
“We have got to look at these issues around the franchise. There are different models you can use. You can have a competitive model where there is a public option like there is in East Coast at the moment. So we are looking at different models for this.”
This follows hot on the heels of reported that Jon Cruddas was called to a “rail summit” to discuss plans around taking the railways back under public control, and reports earlier this week that Labour is considering a “fares freeze” once in government.
