Tessa Jowell has now all but confirmed that she will put her name forward to be Labour candidate for London Mayor in 2016, saying that she is “preparing her plan” but says now “isn’t the time for declaration”. When asked on LBC today whether running would be something she would be interested in, she replied:
“Yes it would. I’m preparing my plan. This isn’t the time for declaration but I’m certainly preparing my plan.
My absolute priority is be able to answer the big questions and the big challenges London faces.
But also to be out there on the doorsteps supporting our candidates in those 12 marginal seats we want to win and have Labour MPs for by this time next year. So that’s got to be where the effort goes.”
With most polls of potential candidates showing Jowell ahead, it seems like she could be the one to beat – and we can now be all but sure that she is going run.
