On BBC Election Call, Vince Cable has said that Labour had some responsibility for the financial crash, but says that the crash was not caused by Labour spending too much.
This mirrors Labour’s line.
Ed Balls has previously apologised for Labour’s lack of regulation of the banks. But both Balls and Miliband continue to argue that it was not Labour spending that caused the crisis.
In what could be read as very careful positioning, Cable also argues that he is a politician “of the left” but that “personal preference” is not what matters.
