Avatar

Labour saw its vote share rise as it held on to the one ward it was defending in last night’s council by-elections.

Yesterday saw five council votes, with the Tories defending three, Labour seeking to retain one, and a further seat a free-for-all.

The Tories held their seats in rural England while and Labour’s vote share rose in two of the three seats declared.

In Nether Edge and Sharrow, Sheffield, Labour held the ward with a 6.8 point rise in vote share to 45 per cent, with the Greens second with 42.7 per cent of the vote, an 8.4 point rise. The Lib Dems were third with 12.3 per cent, a 2.3 point drop.

In South Gloucestershire’s Winterbourne ward, the Tories held the seat as Labour’s vote shared soared 18.6 points to come in second. In Soham North, East Cambridgeshire, Labour’s vote share slightly dropped, 0.4 points as they came in third of three parties, behind the victorious Tories and Lib Dems.
