Hundreds of Labour supporters will be out in force in London today, highlighting Boris Johnson’s broken promises on police spending in the capital. It’s the second wave in a series of local flyer campaigns against the Mayor of London, following the new year “wake up with a Boris hangover” campaign in January.
In Boris Johnson’s crime manifesto, he said:
“I will chair the Metropolitan Police Authority. I will take personal responsibility. No offence will be too trivial to demand my attention. No challenge will be so big that I shrug my shoulders and pass the buck.” He said he would chair the MPA “to get more officers on the streets.”
But the new flyers highlight how that promise has been broken:
The flyers also contrast Johnson’s broken promise to chair the police authority with his reluctance to give up his own outside earnings, saying:
“He still manages a £250,000-a-year second job with the Daily Telegraph.”
The flyer adds:
“London under a Conservative Mayor means fewer police, higher tube fares, some bus fares up by a third in less than two years, failure to tackle London’s housing problems and more broken promises. Don’t be fooled. The Tories haven’t changed.”
