Labour most trusted party in three important policy areas, poll finds

Labour is the most trusted party in three key areas – investing in healthcare, reducing unemployment and improving education – a new poll finds.

TNS polled 1,193 people and found that these three areas – along with generating economic growth – are voters’ top concerns heading into the general election.

Of these four areas, Labour came out as most trusted in three, while the Conservatives are seen as more reliable when it comes to generating economic growth.

This will be welcome news because although Labour consistently poll better than the Tories on the NHS, they don’t tend to outstrip them in other policy areas.

The good news doesn’t end there for the party. Overall, this poll puts Labour on 35% – ahead of the Tories by 7 points:

Lab 35% (+2), Con 28% (+1), UKIP 18% (0), Lib Dem 6% (0), Green 7% (-1), Other 5% (-3)

However, when it comes to party leaders, Miliband, Cameron and Clegg all have negative approval ratings with -31, -3 and -36 respectively. On this measure, as has often been the case, Miliband comes well behind Cameron.

The only leader to have a positive rating is Ukip’s Nigel Farage, who has a score of +5 – though TNS note that’s a 12 point drop since their last poll.
