* “Ken did things well when he was running the Greater London Council. I was a teenager then, I was 13 or 14 years old.” Oona King tells the Independent why she is best suited to being Mayor of London.

* David Miliband has followed in the steps of Ed Balls and launched a campaign against the VAT rise.

* David also wants to revisit the issue of exams and school for 14-19 year olds, describing it as an “obstacle course”.

* Rebel Lib Dems may vote against parts of the budget.

* Meanwhile Vince Cable says that his opposition to VAT before the election was point scoring.

* And Matthew Norman reviews some Labour TV appearances in his Independent diary.
