Today is the day. We’ll know the result of the leadership contest in about 8 hours, but we won’t just be waiting around for the result – we’ve got a full day of stories and comment from around the Labour movement to bring you in the build up to today’s main event.
I’ll be tweeting from the event, so follow @labourlist and @markfergusonuk for all of the news from inside the conference centre.
After the announcement is made, we’ll bring you the reaction from inside the hall – and all of the news and views from conference every day.
As an appetiser for today’s announcement, the Fabian Society have been collecting #miligrams from across the Labour movement addressed to the new leader, including:
Neil Kinnock: Achieve the impossible – don’t let the bastards ever grind you down.
Polly Toynbee: Defy the Tory press. Restore pre-Thatcher media ownership laws to break up Murdoch’s empire, let all media owners be UK tax-payers. Don’t be afraid!
Iain Dale: No one will be interested in Labour for a couple of years. Get used to that as you think & plan for the long term.
David Blunkett MP: As Tony Blair said at Conference 2006, ‘The worst ministers are those who can’t, or won’t, take decisions’.
Andy Slaughter MP: Make the same commitment to good quality, affordable housing that we make to healthcare and education.
And my #miligram? Be yourself, be true to your own values and those of the party and listen to the members, even if you disagree.
It’s an exciting day, the culmination of a four month contest, and I’m sure (like me) you can’t wait. See you in Manchester…
