Yesterday George Osborne was at the treasury select committee, when he showed his lack of basic knowledge about fuel tax. Asked how much of the average price of a litre of petrol at the pump goes to his coffers, Osborne got the answer wrong, by a whole 20p per litre. He forgot VAT.
