Statement from Lyn Brown MP

The allegation that I am replacing paid employees with volunteers is simply not true. Volunteers supplement the work of the paid staff in my office.

I have a number of volunteers who work with me, some retired and some straight from University. I really would like to pay everyone who is seeking a wage but I do not have the money for it. People who come to my office to volunteer and get work experience, invariably either get work with me or find paid work elsewhere, within a 6 month period. Expenses are given for travel and subsistence.
