As the first by-election following the formation of the coalition, many observers wondered what the impact would be on the different campaign styles of the the different parties in the lead up to polling day. Would we see a more open and engaged politics that focuses on policies rather than personalities, and actions rather than attacks. On the evidence of the latest Lib Dem leaflet from Oldham East, the answer is no.
Nick Clegg may once have talked about the “new politics” – the new Lib Dem leaflet in Oldham East can be seen below. Is this the new politics? Perhaps the new politics is leaflets without policies? I think we should be told.
