Vacuum cleaner entrepreneur Sir James Dyson today used his new position as Tory technology tsar to tell Tory conference that “scientists needed better financial support, such as further tax incentives … “
The inventor is set to head a Conservative task force exploring ways in which Britain can become the leading hi-tech exporter in Europe.
This coming from a man who in 2003 moved his entire production to Malaysia – resulting in the loss of 800 jobs in the UK. James Dyson has no commitment to his workforce and his only concern is for making greater profit at the expense of UK manufacturing.
In 2005, Dyson reported profits had passed £100 million, allowing him the luxury of trying to decide how much dividend to pay himself and his wife. He hardly needs the money, however, as last year they took out £17 million, helping to pay for a country estate.
Has this broken the image that the Tories have been trying to portray as a party of the people? Isn’t this just another example of “let’s screw the rest, we’ll look after our kind”?
If the Tories are serious about job creation they should ask Dyson to move his production back to the UK, otherwise, why should anyone listen to him?
