What is your one idea to beat the right?

FabianBy Richard Lane / @politicana

With just months until a General Election and the opinion polls tightening, there is still everything to play for. That is why the Fabian Society wants you to pitch your one idea to beat the Right in 2010 for our popular Democracy Den session at the Fabian Society New Year Conference 2010. This can be anything from policy proposals to election tactics. Maybe you have an effective general election slogan or want to draw a specific dividing line with the opposition?

If you want some inspiration, you can catch up with what happened at last year’s Democracy Den, where we were looking for manifesto ideas to make Britain fairer, by clicking here. LabourList, still in its infancy also covered the event.

Last year Kevin Maguire’s proposal calling for a national maximum wage received a hostile response from Dragon David Aaronovitch, but proposals from Sarah Vero and Kelvin Hopkins MP on limiting the number of privately educated students at Oxford and Cambridge and reform of the pension system won the approval of the conference audience.

Think you can do better than that? Then submit a few paragraphs outlining your proposal to beat the Right by clicking here. The best submissions will be asked to attend our New Year Conference to pitch their idea to our panel — including David Lammy and Ken Livingstone — as well as 800 delegates.

Our independent journalists have been on the ground during this local and by-election campaign, which marks the first key electoral test of Keir Starmer’s government.

We’ve been out and about with Labour activists and candidates across the country from Bristol to Hull, and will soon be heading to Cambridgeshire and Lancashire – as well as Runcorn and Helsby. We’ve also polled readers for their views on the campaign.
