Labour’s manifesto: What we think we know so far

Pledge

By Alex Smith / @alexsmith1982

As more details emerge about Labour’s manifesto, due in full in the next couple of weeks (presuming a May 6th election), I’ll be keeping track of some of the most policy plans that been pre-announced or trailed here.

Add links in the comments if there are any I’ve missed so far, and I’ll update this post sporadically.

Abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a fully-elected second chamber.

First right to buy for football fans whose clubs are put up for sale.

Devolve housing budgets to local authorities.

Universal free school meals.

Protect spending on childcare and Sure Start.

A National Care Service.

Reform of libel laws.

Plans to make local services run under the co-operative model.

A referendum on the alternative Vote, if it doesn’t get through the end of this parliamentary sessions’s “wash up” of existing bills.

Reducing the voting age to 16.

The creation of a People’s Bank to be run through the Post Office.

Substantial increases in the minimum wage.

A commitment to a national high-speed rail network.

Fixed term parliaments.
