The Guardian today features an interview with Oona King in G2. The wide-ranging piece covers her 2005 general election defeat, family life and her plan to run a “listening campaign”.
Speaking to Kira Cochrane, King said:
“Too often politicians will deliver a fully fledged policy manifesto with no opportunity for people to really engage”
Oona also lays claim to the mantle of the New Labour candidate:
“I was very loyal to the founding principle of New Labour, which was the marriage of social justice and economic prosperity. I think it was a profound misunderstanding of many of us on the left, and I used to be one of them, who thought, ‘Well, I’m only interested in social justice, I’m not interested in economic prosperity’, and obviously you only have to be in charge of the exchequer for about 20 minutes or less to realise that if you’re not generating economic prosperity, you can’t redistribute anything.”
