Unemployment – vital statistics

– Unemployment rate – 8.3% (highest since 1996)

In the North East the unemployment rate is a staggering 11.6%

– Total Unemployed – 2.62 million (the highest since 1994)

Youth employment tops one million at a record 1.02 million, and this is the second month in a row that unemployment has risen by more than 50k

– Number of people in work – down 197,000

There are now 5.7 unemployed people for every job

– Number of employees – down 305,000

At 24.79m – that’s the lowest since records begun

It’s hurting, but it’s not working.
