Many people have come from the Entertainment industry to become Labour campaigners and representatives – Glenda Jackson, Eddie Izzard, Richard Wilson – and Rhys Hutchings?
Hutchings – from the comedy Welsh rap act Goldie Lookin Chain (famous for “Guns don’t kill people, rappers do”) – also known as Zardoz, P.Xain and Dwain Xain Zedong, has been elected as a Labour councillor in Newport.
Hutchings will represent St Julians ward, being elected after a third recount with 981 votes. He was reported by MSN as saying:
“It’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do since my Duke of Edinburgh Award when I was fifteen years old. I’m chuffed to have won and it comes after hard work by my supporters and I’ve got to thank them for that. I can’t wait to help those people that trusted me and voted for me.”
Incidentally, the first line from GLC’s biggest hit was:
“Guns don’t kill people, rappers do. Ask any politician and they’ll tell you it’s true”
