A new video from Andy Burnham’s campaign launched today shows the leadership candidate enjoying family life, and features endorsements from both those close to him and those he has helped as an MP.
It sees his parents and brother reflect on Burnham’s character, and his wife Marie-France tease the Shadow Health Secretary for his “long hair and the good looks and the monobrow” during his university days – which one photo from the archive allows us to see.
The eight-minute film shows endorsements from Shadow Justice Secretary Lord Falconer, as well as Sarah Taylor, who Burnham helped when her daughter was kidnapped in 2007. One section shows the difficult reception the Leigh MP faced at Anfield when speaking about the Hillsborough disaster in 2009, and the support he was given by fans after campaigning on the subject five years later. Towards the end, however, Burnham admits he wouldn’t want to be Labour leader if he though it mean he would have to stop going to see Liverpool’s rivals Everton.
