Support Labour’s election pledges – share them on Facebook

By Alex Smith / @alexsmith1982

As part of Labour’s “word of mouth” strategy, the party is asking you to donate your Facebook status to help spread the word about the 5 new election pledges, announced by Gordon Brown earlier today.

Via a new app on the party’s main Facebook page, launched today, one click will help you share Labour’s plans with your friends.

In my interview with Douglas Alexander this week, Labour’s election coordinator said:

“There are more opportunities than there have ever been for Labour to get its message across. But we are also more reliant than we’ve ever been on Labour Party members and supporters to take that message out to the country.”

You can now do that by visiting Labour’s Facebook page, and clicking on the pledge you’d like to share – or all of them! Each pledge will then transfer to your own Facebook profile, and appear in all your friends’ news feeds.

Just click on the images below, then “support this pledge by sharing”, then “publish”. You can also add your own note, saying why you support the party on that particular pledge.

As this video makes clear, Facebook has become one of the most important ways groups can communicate and coordinate – and that’s no different in the election. While the Sun has 3 million readers, Facebook has 21 million users in the UK.

So help spread the word – get sharing!
