The Southend Echo is reporting that David Amess, Southend’s local MP, ran away and hid in a hairdressers shop after they quizzed him on his £19,000 food bill racked up on Parliamentary expenses.
Many local constituents commenting on the Echo website are asking whether Amess could be up for the chop in the next election, and are calling him a “coward” and “pathetic” for running from the reporters.
Tom Flynn, the Labour PPC for Southend, said “I was always told there’s no such thing as a free lunch but David Amess is dining out on the taxpayer 3 times a day. I hope that when he hid in the hairdressers he got the hairdryer treatment!”
