IFS criticises all parties on cuts – 8 in the morning, April 28th

8amBy Alex Smith / @alexsmith1982

* The IFS yesterday criticised all three parties’ “vague” plans for cuts in public spending and said none has gone “anywhere near identifying” the cuts needed to meet their respective deficit reduction plans.

* Gordon Brown yesterday accused the Tories and Liberal Democrats of colluding in a “coalition of cuts against children”.

* For Labour, tomorrow’s economy debate will be make or break, writes Anatole Kaletsky in the Times.

* The BBC has accused ITV of trying to undermine coverage of tomorrow’s debate, by refusing to move Coronation Street to another time.

* Elizabeth Haywood, Peter Hain’s wife, says the media intrusion into the lives of politicians’ wives has to stop.

* Jonathan Freedland says “if you live in a Tory-Lib Dem marginal, vote Lib Dem. But if the battle for your seat is between Labour and Tory – or even between Labour and Lib Dem – it has to be a vote for Labour.”

* Kevin Maguire writes: “Cameron was laughing at voters when he included the rich in his list of the Great Ignored”.

* The Guardian has five hung parliament scenarios, from Labour to the Lib Dems having most seats.
