Another quiet day on the campaign trail today, with time being predominantly spent trying to get out the vote in these crucial final days.
DAVID MILIBAND‘s campaign was buoyed today by a ComRes poll that suggests David is twice as popular with Labour voters as his brother. A statement on his website said:
“A ComRes poll for the Independent shows that David Miliband is more than twice as popular as his nearest rival and three times more likely to get Labour elected to Government at the next general election. The poll also found that David is the most likely of the five Labour leadership candidates to win over wavering voters and people who backed Labour in 2005, but switched to the Liberal Democrats or Conservative Party this year.”
David also did a webchat with “The Student Room”, and recorded this video message when he finished:
ED MILIBAND‘s major focus today was his “Call for change” phonebanking event, which his team have been drumming up volunteers for in recent days:
This morning on the Today programme Ed displayed some of the confidence that we’ve been talking about in recent days, and he re-stated his belief that the race is going his way, saying:
“I am increasingly confident the momentum is with me in the campaign…I’m certainly not counting my chickens. I am fighting for every vote — and will carry on doing so right up to the time until the ballots close, because it is going to be a close election in my view. But I’m increasingly confident.”
“I have an absolute belief that I am the best person to take on David Cameron.”
ED BALLS was on the phones with volunteers this morning:
He also spent the day doing media interviews with the Evening Standard, and the Today programme, both of which will go out tomorrow.
DIANE ABBOTT ‘s team seem to be focussed on Diane’s media profile, rather than just straight get out the vote (perhaps in an attempt to reach wavering trade union voters). They emailed supporters today urging them to tune in to Question Time tomorrow, attend the recording if possible, and use social media to show their support for Diane.
Iain Dale also suggests that Diane took time out from campaigning today to judge the EI Comment Awards.
ANDY BURNHAM was the latest leadership candidate to record a video pitch for LabourList readers today, and said he’s fighting for a different Labour Party:
