As the leadership election draws to a close (with only two days of voting left), the bookies still have David Miliband as favourite – but it’s close.
The latest odds from Ladbrokes are:
David Miliband: 4/7
Ed Miliband: 5/4
Ed Balls: 100/1
Andy Burnham: 100/1
Diane Abbott: 150/1
Clearly then, the bookies don’t give anyone but the Miliband’s a chance of winning (reflected in their 33/1 price for the next leader not being a Miliband). In a five way contest (and with most people having voted by now) 100/1 is near enough no chance.
However, they are now offering odds on the first candidate to be eliminated, which also make interesting reading:
Diane Abbott: 6/4
Ed Balls: 7/4
Andy Burnham: 2/1
Ed Miliband: 100/1
David Miliband: 100/1
Abbott is certainly vulnerable to a fifth place finish as she has so little support in the MPs section of the contest, but the bookies believe that Andy Burnham is a much stronger bet than Ed Balls to hold on into the later rounds.
