As Iain Dale reported earlier today, Tory MP David Nuttall will be tabling a 10 Minute Rule Bill in an attempt to overturn the UK smoking ban. In a short video (below) Nuttall justifies his decision on the basis that pubs and clubs are being forced to close – despite recent government figures suggesting that the number of premises licensed to sell alcohol has reached record levels.
Nuttall’s bill (which would allow individual licensees to choose whether or not their premises are smokefree) appears to fly in the face of the government’s plans in this area, and is therefore unlikely to become law.
England saw an almost immediate fall in the number of people being admitted to hospital for heart attacks in the period following the introduction of the ban.
