It was only a matter of time before Nick Griffin and his cronies crawled out of the woodwork really. Over the past few days the fascist MEP has been tweeting incessantly about the riots taking place across Britain, desperate to bring in an ethnic dimension.
“English crowd chases group of black would-be looters out of Eltham.” he reported, adding “English self defence groups patrolling in several parts of south east London.” He even accused “liberal f***kwits” in the media of ignoring the racial aspect of the unrest and took it upon himself to proclaim a “race riot” in Eltham on Tuesday night.
This bile on its own would be bad enough, but the BNP has switched things up a gear launching new leaflets on their website under the title “Self-defence is no offence – we will protect our communities”. The page urges party activists to distribute these leaflets “in preparation for a huge weekend of action for all activists this Saturday and Sunday”.
The content is sickening. Alongside pictures of naked women in the street, the BNP declares “Black gangs humiliate and terrorise victims by stripping them of their clothing and dignity”. A second leaflet describes the unrest as a ‘black blitz’, suggesting that “Black gangs are targeting innocent people just because they are white”. In another fearmongering paragraph, the far-right party warn of “waves of violent racist attacks on innocent victims whose only ‘crime’ is not being black”.
There’s more. A poster is available for all to download urging vigilante action. “WE NEED YOU to join us on our PEACEFUL ANTI-RIOT PATROL this evening.” It advises those who come along to “Wear something white. You know it’s right.”
For all of their bleating about having changed, the BNP is a racist party. Far from trying to quell the unrest, the far-right is stoking the fire and inflaming racial tensions. Griffin might say he wants the violence to stop, but really he wants more. Black vs White. Communities turned on each other. The ‘indigenous’ population under attack from ‘foreigners’.
As a party based on playing on people’s fears, it shouldn’t surprising to see them trying to stoke racial tensions now. Our communities must be united against the vigilante racism the BNP is espousing and reject the hatred they seek to spread.
