Last week I wrote about the Refounding Labour process, and the lack of transparency surrounding it. I also appealed to “democratically minded NEC members, NPF members, MPs, shadow cabinet members or staff members” to contact us and pass on a copy of the report. We were contacted over the weekend with a copy, and we have spent the last two days confirming its authenticity.
The document (below) was produced for the Organisation Committee of the NEC, and presented to them over a month ago on July 5th. That this report exists has been a long standing open secret, yet the party has so far only released a summary which revealed little. Those who made submissions to Refounding Labour have yet to see anything substantial that indicates whether or not their submissions have been taken into account.
In the interest of transparency and openness – which LabourList has always felt should have been the cornerstone of any party reform – we publish the report from July 5th below, in full.
Update: We’ve now received a more recent draft of the Refounding Labour report. The newer version was presented to the NEC on July 19th, and is 41 pages long, compared to the earlier 38 page document. We’ve posted the updated document in place of the older version below.
