As expected Labour will oppose EU referendum bill

As expected, Ed Miliband will confirm today that Labour will oppose the EU referendum bill next week. As the government (although not the Tory right) are also against the bill, it seems unlikely to pass. Miliband will spell out his reasons for opposing the bill later today, but we’re told that Miliband considers such a referendum a distraction from jobs and growth.

Speaking to LabourList a few moments ago, a Labour source summed up their thoughts on the bill as:

“Dogs bark, cats meow and struggling Tory governments turn inwards and fight their own MPs on Europe”

Meow indeed…
