The Tory Party may have lost all sense of party loyalty and discipline as they charge headlong into the welcoming (?) arms of UKIP, but thankfully there’s some common sense from Labour on the madness of MPs standing on a joint ticket with UKIP. Last night Angela Eagle confirmed that:
“Any Labour candidate who tried to stand on a joint ticket with UKIP would be auto-excluded from the Labour Party – it’s as simple as that.”
Quite right. You’re either a member of the party or you’re not – representing two parties with two sets of policies, two manifestos and two leaders would be absolutely ridiculous. It would turn party affiliation into a mere label for electoral purposes.
So will David Cameron say the same? I doubt it – he’s too scared of defections…
