16 and 17 year olds in the capital look likely to be receiving a vote in Labour’s London Mayoral Primary, after Shadow minister for political and constitutional reform Stephen Twigg told the Evening Standard:
“I welcome the proposal that we can implement this pledge early by enabling 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in Labour’s primary for the 2016 election for London Mayor.”
The final decision on how the London Mayoral primary will work is for the Collins Review – however after Ed Miliband committed Labour to votes at 16 in his conference speech this year, it’s unlikely that 16 year olds will be excluded from Labour’s own vote.
