In recent days we’ve had a number of people contact us to ask about the details of Tony Benn’s funeral. We’ve been in touch with the Benn family, and the following statement has been released by Benn’s children Stephen, Hilary, Melissa and Joshua :
“Tony Benn’s funeral will be held at 11.00am on Thursday 27th March 2014 at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster, London SW1.
His body will travel in a hearse from the main gates of New Palace Yard at 10.45am, and will be followed by members of the family on foot. It will arrive at the gates at the side of St Margaret’s from where it will be carried into the church by members of the family.
There are only a very limited number of places available. Applications should be made to: [email protected].
There will be a Memorial Meeting held later in the year.”
Of course, as the number of people who are able to attend the ceremony is limited, members of the public who wish to pay their respects may gather outside the church. Flowers and other tributes can still be left on the North side of Parliament Square next to the Lloyd George statue.
