Majority of LabourList readers back Miliband after tough week

A week ago Ed Miliband was facing open (albeit anonymous) revolt from a number of Labour MPs, but after a tough week for the Labour leader, he’s got the backing of a majority of LabourList readers according to our latest weekly survey. 51% of those of you who voted said Miliband is doing a Good or Very Good job as Labour leader, compared to 25% who feel Miliband’s performance has been Poor or Very Poor. Almost a quarter of readers were on the fence, with 24% saying that Miliband’s performance has been “Fair”.

That’s hardly a ringing endorsement of the Labour leader, but after the tumult of the past week, it’s far better than might otherwise have been expected:

Another of this week’s stories in Parliament before the short recess was the row over the European Arrest Warrant, with Theresa May denying Tory MPs a vote on the measure they felt they’d been promised. Labour has promised a vote on November 19th – the day before the Rochester and Strood by-election – and will be voting in favour of the measure. 81% of LabourList readers agree with the party leadership and support the EAW, with just 10% opposed:

Meanwhile, when it comes to the Rochester and Strood by-election, LabourList readers aren’t particularly optimistic. The vast majority (72%) believe that Labour will finish third in next Thursday’s by-election. 19% believe that Labour will snatch second place (presumably from the Tories), whilst a wildly optimistic 5% believe the polls from the seat are all totally wrong, and Labour can win.

801 LabourList readers voted in this week’s survey. Thanks to everyone who took part
