A YouGov poll for the Sunday Times (£) has suggested that Labour could lose up to 20 seats in Scotland in the general election.
The poll indicated – as others have done – that Labour could lose many of these seats to the SNP. That’s because according to this latest polling, the SNP are on 47% – four points up on the last YouGov poll and twenty points ahead of Labour, who are on 27%. Meanwhile the Tories are on 16% and the Lib Dems are on 3%.
However, this comes directly in the wake of Jim Murphy being elected leader of Scottish Labour and Kezia Dugdale being voted in as Deputy Leader. In his victory speech, Murphy acknowledged that there was a huge challenge facing Scottish Labour but he also attempted to bridge political divides. He explained:
I want to talk now to the Scots who voted Yes. Labour voters. Supporters of all parties, and none.
Know this: I share far more with many of you who voted yes than I do with some of the political leaders who campaigned for No. Together we have a common aim – a better, fairer Scotland.
