Weekly survey: Fixed terms, local campaigning and the election

On Monday morning Ed Miliband announced that it was day one of Labour’s general election campaign. On the same day, there were also speeches from Jim Murphy and Nick Clegg, as well as a press conference from a group of Tory leadership hopefuls Cabinet ministers.

With 122 days until polling, this makes for what is possibly the longest election campaign in living memory. This is largely down to the fact that we already know the date of the election, due to the introduction of fixed term parliaments.

Do you think the introduction of fixed election dates has been a positive step?

Given Ed Miliband has set the task for Labour activists to speak to four million voters by May 7th, a strong ground campaign seems to be vital to the party’s chance of success.
