The Greens are having their pre-election conference today, and party leader Natalie Bennett is the keynote speaker. She’ll be trying to push on the “green surge” that floundered somewhat after her horrorshow day of interviews recently. But that “surge” might not be all it’s cracked up to be.
Bennett is the Green Party PPC for the Labour held seat of Holborn and St Pancras, and lives in the ward of St Pancras & Somers Town. Yesterday there was a by-election, and here’s the result:
LAB – 72.8% (+4.7)
CON – 12.0% (+2.0)
GRN – 10.5% (-4.8)
LDEM – 4.7% (-1.9)
That’s the green vote falling by a third, and the party falling from 2nd place to 3rd place. A Green surge? They’re going backwards in the seat where their leader is the candidate…
