A new Clause IV for the Scottish Labour Party has been confirmed. LabourList understands that 69% of delegates at the special one-day conference voted in favour of ratifying the change to the constitution.
Concerns had been raised by Unite the Union at the word “patriotic” in the new clause: it states that the party will “work for the patriotic interest of the people of Scotland”. In the end, however, it passed with an overwhelming majority.
Jim Murphy announced his intention to put a new Clause IV to Scottish Labour members upon becoming leader back in December, and the wording was drawn up by early January.
