What are the other Labour elections taking place right now?

The Leadership and Deputy Leadership are not the only votes full members (as opposed to Registered and Affiliated Supporters) will find on their Labour Party Ballots.

There are also elections for:

Two CLP representatives on the Conference Arrangements Committee. This committee determines the shape of the agenda for Annual Conference, rules on the validity of contemporary and emergency motions, and acts as the steering committee for the conference. Two incumbents who are not from the left are standing down and there are high profile candidates running from both wings of the party. This is the first time that these posts have been elected by One Member One Vote, as opposed to by conference delegates. The remaining 5 seats on the committee are all held by representatives of the major trade unions. The ballot is determined on the basis of first-two-past-the-post with at least one woman to be elected. Members have two votes.

Representatives on the National Policy Forum (NPF). In each region, 4 CLP representatives are being elected, so members have four votes. Young members under 26 get to vote for an additional youth rep in each region. Councillors elected a further 4 Association of Labour Councillors reps. Elections are by first 4 past-the-post with at least two women to be elected per region. The factional balance for each region in the last elections in 2012 is shown below. The National Policy Forum also includes representatives of regional parties, affiliated trade unions and socialist societies, the PLP, the EPLP and other stakeholder groups within the Party. The NPF is the lead body for policy making in the party, via a rolling consensus-based process that culminates in the agreement of final policy papers in the summer before the General Election.

With the fierce ideological debate in the party due to Jeremy Corbyn’s candidature it will be interesting to see if his coattails effect strengthens the left’s position on these two key bodies, or whether the narrower franchise of just full members means opponents of Corbyn are in a position to stall the left’s agenda within the party.

Below is what I understand to be the full list of candidates. Please mention any errors or omissions in the comments. I have indicated both whether any candidate is an incumbent and any factional endorsement. LF next to a name means they appear in the recommendations circulated by Labour First, i.e. the more centrist of the two main slates. GRA next to a name means they appear in the recommendations circulated by the Grassroots Alliance, the party’s left slate. If there is nothing next to a name they have not appeared on either list – I have deliberately not made any subjective comments about where candidates are politically.

Please note that these endorsements are sometimes unsolicited – candidates may not self-define in the way that the endorsement labels indicate. The boundaries are also blurred – not everyone on the GRA slate would be voting for Corbyn for Leader, for instance.
