On Sunday, armed forces chief General Sir Richard Houghton said it would “worry” him if someone who had publicly said they would not use Trident were to come to power. Jeremy Corbyn said that this was a breach of neutrality and a “matter of serious concern”, while Shadow Defence Secretary said she was comfortable with the remarks.
Was Houghton with his rights to make the comments?
A Commons vote on the renewal of Trident could be called as soon as before Christmas. Currently, it is Labour policy to support renewal, a view that was reaffirmed at conference in Brighton. However, Jeremy Corbyn opposes renewal, and was backed up by a vote at Scottish Labour conference.
If a debate happens, should MPs be given a free vote?
The SNP routed Scottish Labour back in May, and the cause of the result is still debated, with some claiming that their anti-austerity rhetoric won them their support.
Do you think the SNP stood on a more left wing platform than Labour in May?
The survey will be open until noon on Thursday. You can vote here.
