Rowan Williams, The Archbishop of Canterbury, has launched a remarkable assault on the coalition government in tomorrow’s New Statesman, labelling them “frightening”. Writing as guest editor, Williams says that the government is implementing “radical, long-term policies for which no one voted.”He goes on to say:
“At the very least, there is an understandable anxiety about what democracy means in such a context.”
The article, which has yet to be released, has already made the front page of tomorrow’s Telegraph (a paper which is increasingly open to criticism of the government). More details can be found in George Eaton’s preview over at the New Statesman website.
