Refounding Labour was responsible for creating a new Vice Chair Youth of the party, a position which would specifically be focussed on promoting the interesting of young members within out party, on building Young Labour and engaging with young voters. This was part of a wider commitment to ensure that young members are represented at every level of our party, including in the Parliamentary Labour Party.
Over the past few months, Young Labour’s National Committee worked with Ed Miliband to find the right individual to take on this exciting role. Today, we are delighted to announce, that person is Jonathan Reynolds MP.
Having Jonathan in this role is great news for all young members. Johnny will be able to make sure our voice is heard at the very highest level and will be an ambassador for the issues we care about in Parliament.
Jonathan was elected as the Member of Parliament for Stalybridge and Hyde at the 2010 General Election and is now a PPS to Ed Miliband. Jonathan brings with him an extensive experience of our youth wing and a real understanding of what needs to be done. From 2003 to 2005, Johnny was the voice of young members, students and young trade unionists on the NEC.
Young Labour in the past year has made significant progress. This appointment is one further step towards creating a party that truly delivers for its young people.
