Did you dig deep for the miners? If so read on…

By Bob PiperMiners' Strike

I recently received an open note addressed to Londoners from Davey Hopper. Davey is the North-East Area Secretary of the NUM, and has been trying to get in touch with those in London who marched, argued for, and took part in benefits on behalf of miners in the 1984 Miners’ strike. In particular, he’s trying to get in touch with those of you in London who were involved in Miners’ Support Groups.

Davey has been trying to use the medium of Labour bloggers to get this message out, so I’m also asking anyone who reads this and can blog about it to do so.

I’ve got a list of the London areas where support groups came together, which might be of help if anyone is racking their memory!

There were groups in: Barnet, Brentford, Camden, Chiswick, Croydon, Enfield, Greenwich, Hackney, Hampstead, Hammersmith, Hendon, Highgate, Hounslaw, Islington, Kingston, Lewisham, Leyton, Muswell Hill, Newham, Crouch End, Pimlico, Poplar, Potters Bar, Richmond, Twickenham, Southwick, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Waltham Forest, Walthamstow, Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Haringey, and Aylesham.

Finally, Davey has left me a phone number for anyone who might have been involved, or can help spread the message. He can be contacted on 0777 563 0398.
