I’m concerned that, more and more, David Cameron is beginning to sound like Margaret Thatcher in her heyday.
But David Cameron is wrong on each of the issues that are important to Britain today. His party opposed the government’s plans to act in the face of recession; his councils across the country are neglecting the people who need help most; his party opposed the minimum wage and has tabled a bill to allow opt-outs; his allies in Europe are opposed to gay rights legislation; he wants a return to the cruelty of fox hunting; and his EU policy has been criticsed by several European ministers as one that would marginsalise the UK during these difficult times.
I’m old enough to remember what Thatcherism was like in this country, and I will work to ensure that such policies are never again allowed to take Britain hostage.
So I say:
Never again to the breakdown of communities.
Never again to an uncaring society.
Never again to decimated public services.
Never again to being marginalised in Europe.
Never again to long hospital waiting lists.
Never again to crumbling schools.
Never again to demoralised police forces.
Never again to no minimum wage.
Never again to Section 28.
Never again to fox hunting.
Never again to double digit inflation.
Never again to Thatcherism.
Never again to a Conservative government.
